There are two common frustrations with Skype, however, where its default options let you down.
The first is related to closing the app, and the second is related to notifications.
By default, when you close skype, it doesnt actually close.
Instead, it minimizes the system tray.

Also, by default, Skype notifies you whenever one of your contacts comes online.
With a small number of contacts, this isnt too much of a problem.
As there arent enough people coming online for this to get particularly annoying.
Similarly, if you only sign in when youve arranged to call someone, the notifications are essentially useless.
tap on the triple-dot icon in the top-left to pop pop the prefs, then click prefs.
hit the triple-dot icon in the top-left to kick off the parameters, then click parameters.
Once in the prefs, switch to the Notifications tab.
hit the second slider from the top, labeled Contact comes online notification, to the off position.
