Have you ever wanted to customise the look of your web web app?

Themes for Google Chrome can be used to do exactly that.

Well, luckily you’ve got the option to do just that.

There are two methods of creating your own theme.

In this article, well walk you through the process of creating your own Chrome theme with both tools.

The simple built-in Chrome tool

To use the built-in Chrome theme editor, open a new tab.

tap the pencil icon to fire up the theme editor.

Select a background picture for the new tab page.

Once youve selected a background image, move to the Color and theme tab.

Here you’re able to choose from a selection of colour combinations.

Select a preset colour scheme.

For more intense shades set the crosshair near the top and the arrow in the middle.

For paler colours, move the crosshairs a little lower and the arrow up.

Once youve selected the colour you want, click Add to custom colours in the bottom right.

First of all, you should probably browse to ThemeBetas website.

The first step once youre in the theme creator is to choose a background image.

Upload an Image and then upload an image from your hard-drive.

Use an online converter if your image is something different.

Test the options out until you find something you are happy with!

Configure the positioning of your background image.

The second step is to click 2.

Here it’s possible for you to configure a background image for certain elements.

Mouse-over the options to see what portion of the user interface they change.

The second advanced tab is titled Colors.

nudge the box to pop pop the colour picker for the respective elements.

To install your custom theme, you will need to enable a developer feature.

If you try the Pack and Install method, youll get an error alert.

Third-party CRX files cant be installed in Chrome.

Once the zip file is downloaded, extract the files and save them to your hard drive.

Double-hit the file youve downloaded and select Extract at the top of your file viewer.

Youll have to select where to extract your files to.

Remember where you save them so you might upload them again more easily.

Extract the files from the ZIP file and save them to your hard drive.

The next step is the Chrome extensions page.

smack the three dots then More tools > Extensions.

Once the developer mode is enabled, three buttons should appear in the top left corner.

The one you need is Load unpacked.

Click Load unpacked and import the folder you extracted from the zip file earlier.

Enable developer mode and then click Load unpacked.

Tip: You want to import the parent folder, not the images folder it contains.

Before you close this alert, open a new tab and ensure everything looks as you wanted it to.

Dont hide the confirmation alert until youre sure youre happy with the result!
